An Interview with a Web Goddess!

Jamey Dee

Jamey Dee was one of the first women to let us peek into her life through the webcam. From the beginning, her webcam has been a glimpse into the life of a working woman. The webcam shows her working hard at her job or relaxing at home.

Many of us have gotten to know Jamey through our various interactions, through the 5is Spin Cycle, various chat rooms, email, and ICQ.

Jamey is a bright, beautiful woman who can light up a room with her smile and plays a mean game of Tetris.

I was privileged to be able to convince Jamey to answer a few of the questions that I had and allow me to share those answers.

Name: Jamey Dee

Birthday: September 20, 196?

Height: 5'3"

Weight: I won't ask, she won't tell

Vital Statistics: 34C-??-??

Marital Status: Engaged for three years

What do you like to do in your spare time?
Crochet, tennis, rollerblading, flying kites

What do you want for dessert?
Something chocolate!

What makes you get out of bed in the morning?Anticipation of the alarm clock!

Are you more likely to see the sunrise or the sunset?
Sunset. I like to sleep in!

What one thing could you not live without?
My sight!

Why do your friends like you?
Do they? ::grin::

What's the one item you are most likely to have forgotten to bring with you?

My keys! ::ARGH!::

What is your most dangerous vice?
Buying NEAT-O electronic gadgets!

What is your favorite movie? Why?
I love movies so much, it's hard to pick a single one. Let me throw out some titles and then pick an overall favorite, "Gone With the Wind," "Casablanca," "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory," "The Wizard of Oz," "Raiders of the Lost Ark"--all of these I would gladly sit down and watch again and again and again. But if we're talking about a movie that affected me deeply, then it would be Martin Scorsese's, "The Age of Innocence," starring Daniel Day-Lewis, Winona Ryder and Michelle Pfieffer, based on Edith Wharton's novel. The unrequited passions, the endless longings of people bound up by the conventions of the Victorian age, the subtle backstabbings, oh, it never fails to depress me deeply.

Who are your heros and why?
The writer Harlan Ellison is unabashedly one of my heroes. He writes with a purity of emotion, holding nothing back, regardless of the consequences. You may love him or hate him, but you are never left unmoved.

Beryl Markham was a remarkable woman, a female aviatrix. She dared to live her life her own way, regardless of society's conventions in the early days of aviation.

If I had a chance to do it over, this time I'd...?
...have gone ahead and attended University of Southern California. I won a tuition-only scholarship and life would have been very hard, but I would have gotten much more out of my college education.

If you could have freaky friday powers, who would you exchange places with for a day?
Oh, really, any guy. I can't imagine life with something dangling down there! :)

What vehicle would you drive if you didn't have to worry about paying for it?
A bright red Corvette C-5! Did you really have to ask? :)

If you could go anywhere and do anything, where would you go and what would you do?
Two answers here, depending on how tired I am. :)
Answer 1: I'd go to Bora Bora or any of the other Tahitian Islands, and vegetate by the water (when I wasn't actually in the water, scuba diving).
Answer 2: I'd go to Europe for the summer, travelling light and wandering from country to country. I want to float down a boat and see castles on the Rhine, meditate in the Louvre, eat chocolate in Switzerland. :)

Describe your fantasy evening.
It would involve spontaneity. I would want to be surprised. Maybe we get into an airplane and have dinner someplace special in a city I've never been to and all the arrangement have been taken care of, all I have to do is sit back and appreciate and enjoy!

If I wanted to use music to seduce you, I should try...?
Something low, instrumental and bluesy or lush and classical.

Tell me about the first time.
Anticlimatic. :)

Tell me about the strangest place you've had sex.
Can't. :) I'd get in trouble!

If Playboy called, would you pose? Why or why not? What about other Men's magazines?
If I posed, it would be clothed, which they also do. :) Why not nude? Because it is the mystery, it is the wanting to know that is the art of seduction, the art of tease.

Why are you online and on camera?
Incipient senility, most likely.
No, seriously, there's a point here, darn it!
I consider myself a living illustration. Segments from a life. If life is theatre, then this is close to the ultimate performance art. The sad thing here is the amount of time we spend at work because we're indoctrinated that this is how it is supposed to be, but the truth is, life isn't about working. Life is about living.
That's the highbrow answer. The truth is I do it because I enjoy it. Most of the time. I like being seen. Just as I used to love watching other cams, I hope I'm giving something back to the internet community.

What do you like about being on camera?
The people I have met via the cam. The people who find me a form of company in their lonely hours. That's the best part. If watching me work/chat/play brightens someone else's day, then that's the tops!!!

What do you hate about being on camera?
Being seen eating. :) There's nothing remotely attractive about watching a Wendy's single disappearing into my mouth. :) On the bright side, I've learned to chew with my mouth shut. :)

If you had it to do over again, would you?
Yes, I probably would have started sooner with the official web page. I had the cam for over a year before I put the page up.

How has your outlook on life changed since you've been online?
I feel like I've walked a long road. It's strange to think that actually I'm one of older cams out there. I'm a LOT less naive than I started. I'm a little more wary also, of people tracking me down in real life. I find I appreciate my moments of solitude more without the clamoring voices. (Or rather, the constant Uh-oh of ICQ and the melodic chords of AIM.) I find I appreciate my moments of real life more.

Do you have a favorite day/night on camera? When? Why?
Mondays used to be my favorite. Why? Because Mondays uniformly suck, that's why. :) If you go through the archive, Mondays would overwhelmingly be my day for mischief. It's a day when people need something fun to happen!

Do you watch any other cameras? Who? Why?
I love the artiness of Letrice's cam. And, of course, Labman is easy on this girl's eyes. Coy is classy and Xan is startling. And now and then I like to check up on Jenni, just to see how she's doing.

How has the camera affected your relationship with your fiance?
Not at all. Well, only in terms of wondering what we can do to make the webcam self-sufficient monetarily.

Has the camera affected your attitude about sex?
No, not really.

How are you less inhibited since you've been online?
Oh, I was never that inhibited to start with. ::grin::

When you look back on the past year, what would be your fondest memory?
The outpouring of support I received from the cam fans when I outlined my simplenet plight on the cam page. I was touched beyond words to see the mail roll in and to know that I had touched these people's lives during the course of my cam and now in my time of need, they were there for me. That was a wonderful feeling.

How does being online hamper you getting/maintaining the lifestyle you want?
The amount of money spent on webhosting/hardware/software starts to add up quickly. It has greatly curtailed my once extravagant spending.

How does being online help you get/maintain the lifestyle you want?
The high profile nature of my site gets me webwork, which enables me to keep feeding my hobby. I like living my life on-line; I'd like to expand the coverage with a cellular modem and a better laptop.

What is the most daring thing you have ever done?
Going up on the Sky Coaster at Six Flags. They haul you up in a harness between two huge girders 8 floors high and then drop you. I hear there's now one that is taller in Orlando. I'm THERE! :)

What is your greatest fear?
Loss of control. I like being in charge of me, hence drugs have never had much attraction for me.

What is the dumbest thing you've ever done?
Lost my shorts while playing tennis. I went up for an overhead smash and had the choice, go for the point or save my shorts. I went for the point, but my partner was laughing so hard, she missed the easy volley.
